| George Hackenberg, last name picked for the draft This a newspaper clipping of George Hackenberg's name being the last name picked for the draft in Wheeling. This is from a newspaper clipping published on Oct 31, 1940. Because he was married, it essentially guaranteed he would not be drafted. The war was going on in Europe already but it is a year before Pearl Harbor. He is dressed in his mechanics clothing, probably called to the newspaper from work.

| Joseph Scheibelhut and wife, Maria Anna Faust We believe that this is Joseph Scheibelhut and his wife, Maria Anna Faust. They were both from Fulda, Germany and born in 1814 and 1817, respectively. The were married in 1838 in Wheeling, WV. One of their grandchildren is Bernadette Keller Kirchner, Robert Hackenberg's maternal grandmother.
The German "Scheibelhut" eventually got respelled to "Scheibelhood" for English speakers. Also, that's a really poor photo of Joseph with his eyes closed but you need to understand that this is late-1800's photography and they probably had to stand still for a long time. He blinked.
